The White City is Tel Aviv’s heart: the Modern Movement buildings UNESCO inscribed in 2003, built from the early 1930s on Patrick Geddes’s plan, around Rothschild Boulevard and Bialik Street. Habima and the Israel Philharmonic stand at the head of the boulevard, Reuven Rubin’s house is a museum on Bialik Street, and The Norman and Hotel Montefiore keep the quiet streets in between.

Staying

Look up: the balconies are the architecture.

Our advice: walk the boulevard on a Friday morning, when the kiosks fill.
