Jaffa is the old port city from which Tel Aviv grew. Its lanes of pale stone climb the hill above the harbour to St Peter’s Church and a view north along the shore; below, fishing boats still use the port. Around the Clock Tower, The Setai and The Jaffa have turned old buildings into hotels, the flea market sprawls through the streets to the south, and in the Noga quarter OCD serves its tasting menu at a single counter.

Staying

The Setai, The Jaffa and Bazaar.

Come in the late afternoon and stay for sunset from the hill.

Our advice: wear flat shoes; the lanes are steep and polished.
